GETTING STARTED

Thank you for supporting Standard. Let’s help you set up your Omni boots.

Inside the box you’ll find your Omni and a packet of tools and hardware. Some models also include the Standard Aggressive frames. Your Omni is UFS compatible, so any UFS frame will work. Visit any of our retailers to explore the dozens of UFS frame options available to you.

Before you mount your frames, make sure to tighten the soul plate bolts. You can use the provided tool to tighten all of the hardware on your Omni and your frames. It’s important the soul plate bolts are flush with the frame channel to ensure proper frame installation.

Grab your UFS frames and place them on the bottom of your Omni. You should line up the frame mounting holes with the boot receptors. Using the 20mm frame bolts, secure your frames to your Omni. There should be no movement between your frames and your Omni.

Your Omni are now ready to skate. Enjoy the new ride!

Dialing It In

After a few sessions on your Omni, you might be interested in ways to make your skating even better. Here’s a few suggestions to optimize your setup

Heat Mold Your Liners

The Comfort liners are designed with extra padding around the ankle to make skating more enjoyable. But did you know that padding can be customized for your individual feet?

We use a blend of materials which become moldable when heated, and return to their supportive shape when cooled. And the best part is you can easily customize the fit at home.

  • Set your oven to 170° F or 75° C (if your over can’t reach this temperature, set it as low as possible)

  • Remove your Comfort liners from your Omni and place them on a baking sheet

  • Once your oven reaches temperature, turn off the oven and place the baking sheet with your liners inside at the bottom rack

  • Leave the liners in the oven for 15 minutes to activate the moldable material

  • When time is up, remove the liners and place them into your Omni.

  • Put your Omni on your feet and lace and buckle them up normally.

  • Have a seat for 20 minutes and let the material cool around your ankles.

You can repeat this process a few times to improve the fit, especially if you discover pressure points when breaking in your Omni.

Shock Absorber Customization

You might have noticed the extra black insert that was included in the box with your Omni. These are the shock absorbers, and we’ve already installed a pair in your Omni. The shock absorbers sit under your heels and provide a more natural skating position with the benefit of a more comfortable ride.

The white shock absorbers are the Performance model, coming in at 60A hardness. They’re slightly harder than the black Aggressive model, which are 45A hardness (bigger numbers are harder, like with wheels).

If you’re feeling more impact on your heels than you’d like, try swapping in the Aggressive shock absorbers and see how you like them. You can also stack both shock absorbers on top of each other to give yourself more of hockey skate forward lean.

Experiment with the shock absorbers and see what works best for how you like to skate.

Improve Fit and Reduce Pressure Points

We’ve worked hard to make the Omni comfortably fit as many people as possible. But it’s nearly impossible to make a boot that will work perfectly for every foot.

Your Omni boot is made of a unique material which is very supportive but also can be molded to address any pressure points you might feel. The most common area we’ve heard is inside the ankle, which is fairly easy to adjust at home with an oven and household items.

The goal is to widen the area of your Omni that is causing discomfort. We can do this by inserting an object into the trouble area and heating up the plastic to adjust to the new shape. Once it cools it will retain the shape and your pressure point will be reduced.

Before you get started, you’ll need to make a “jig” to wedge into your Omni to stretch the shell. The jig should be slightly longer than fits easily. We’ve seen good results with wooden chopsticks or PVC tubes you can cut down to size, or just use the paper tube that came with your boots. If you need help with finding a good material for a jig, please let us know.

Steps to reduce pressure points

  • Remove your frames, liners, and shock absorbers so you only have the plastic parts remaining.

  • Insert your jig into your shell and make sure it’s pushing out the area you’re feeling pressure

  • Set your oven to 200° F or 90° C. Once it reaches temperature, turn off the oven

  • Place your Omni on a baking sheet inside at the bottom rack

  • Leave the shells in the oven for 15 minutes to heat up the plastic

  • When time is up, remove your Omni and place them on a heat resistant surface to cool.

  • Leave your Omni overnight with the jig installed to form around your new shape

The next day, reassemble your Omni and give them a try. There should be an obvious improvement to the area. You might need to repeat this process a few times to fully remove any discomfort, but it’s worth the effort.

Maintenance

If you want to prolong the life of your Omni, and enjoy every session as much as possible, it’s important to check your skates for issue before you skate.

Keep Everything Tight

There’s nothing worse than a part falling out when you’re skating. Make sure to tighten every axle, bolt and screw every time you lace up your skates. If you hear any sound at all while you skate, it’s likely something has come loose.

Rotate Your Wheels

The wheels on your skates are like tires on a car. They’ll wear out eventually with use. To prolong the live of you wheels, make sure you rotate them after you notice any wear. This all depends on the surface your skating, the temperature you’re skating in, and the style of skating you’re doing.

To rotate your wheels when skating antirocker, take the first wheel on your right skate and replace it with the last wheel on your left skate. Do the same thing with your other two wheels.

For a flat setup, take the first wheel and replace it with the third on the other skate. Then take the second wheel and replace it with the fourth on the other skate. Do this with all of your wheels.

Make sure the graphics are now facing inwards so your wheels wear evenly.

Clean Your Bearings

Your wheels should spin freely with no resistance and no noise. The best way to keep your wheels fast is by wiping down your bearings every time you rotate your wheels. If your bearings are serviceable, you can use some isopropyl alcohol to clean them. Just make sure to add some bearing oil after they’re clean.

Aftermarket Parts

Even if you maintain your skates after every session, you’ll eventually need to replace some parts. Wheels, Bearings, Soul Plates and Frames are readily available at any of our retail partners.
